About Us - Our History

We are in the business of making the world more beautiful. After transforming the old Cellon farmhouse on 441 in Gainesville, Florida into a magical garden of angels and botanical delights, the public was invited to the enchanting old homestead to wander amongst the giant oaks, luscious landscaping and wonderful watergardens. The place had a reputation for being a soothing haven in which to relax and unwind. We have left with our memories intact of the wonderful customers and friends we were blessed to have served, the old farmhouses that made us feel at home of long ago, the enchanted cafe and gardens, the annual Fairy festivals, and of course the Grandfather Oak.

After dedicating ourselves to this labor of love since 1991, in December of 2006 we passed the torch of our beloved property to Harmony Gardens.

We continue to use the name Angel Gardens for our business based out of our home property  in Alachua, Florida, minus the retail store.

Meanwhile, we continue in the pursuit of what we do best: designing and creating environments which enhance the lives of our clients. We have been free to devote our attention to creating outdoor paradises with a special focus on Waterfeatures and Rose Gardens.

We have established a Rose Nursery and Display Gardens where we grow over 1000 varieties of Antique (Old Garden Roses) and Modern Landscape Roses including Chinas, Teas, Noisettes, Hybrid Musks, Hybrid Perpetuals , Bourbons, Climbers, Miniatures, Shrubs and older Hybrid Teas and Floribundas. All our roses are grown on their Own Roots and we use no chemical fertilizers or sprays (100% Organic). You can view and order these from the catalog on this website  as well as some of our favorite organic fertilizers and books.  We welcome Garden Clubs and Group Tours. We are also available for private classes and speaking engagements on Roses, Organic Gardening, and Watergardening.

We have relocated Angel Gardens to our home on 10 acres north of Alachua, Florida where we offer an outdoor showroom (by appointment). We invite you to visit our large koi pond and waterfall, complete with flagstone patio, hot tub, tiki bar,  and outdoor shower (hillbilly spa). A 5 acre spring-fed pond is also part of our property.

James comes to the table with a contractor's license (30 years), a fine art degree from UF, and 30 years experience in building ponds and waterfalls. He will consult, design, install and even maintain your pond or pondless waterfall. He can then add flagstone or brick patio, and wooden structures such as decks, bridges and arbors to compliment your personal retreat. Then I add the landscaping and aquatics with over 3 decades of knowledge working with plants that thrive in our area. We may also stock the pond with beautiful koi. All you add is water. We keep ourselves abreast of all the latest developments and products on the market for low-maintenance pond care.Owning a watergarden is a lifstyle as much as a landscape choice. An initial investment in equipment and quality plants will pay off in labor and service over time. Watergardens drain away the tensions of the day with every falling drop, rejuvenating body and soul

The Spirit of Angel Gardens as a lifestyle is alive and well where we enjoy 34 years married this year. Our four grown children, Chloe, Josiah, Mason and Isla, have spread their wings and flown the coop. James and I, stewards of our homestead of 28 years, now invite you to Stop by and Smell the Roses.
